Lane End Historic Landlords #3 Clayton Arms

Clayton Arms, Lane End.

Compiled from adverts, censuses, court cases, property records (Some of which are held by my family and so unique) etc

This pub is not to be confused with a pub of the same name in Marlow. Both were under the jurisdiction of Great Marlow for licensing and census purposes.

The pub was sometimes used for property auctions and coroner's inquests. It was also the site of the Lane End Agricultural Society annual dinner from at least 1838. The pub usually seems to have been let along with nearby meadows. Sir William Clayton used the pub for the resurrected Court Leets for his manor in the 1860s and 1870s. (The one held on 21st June 1866 was the first for 18 years)
