"Er thanks...." Edwardian Wedding Gifts In Great Marlow

All of these unusual wedding gifts were given to (mostly middle class) couples in Marlow and district:

Umbrella handle in chrystal and gold (just the handle)

First aid kit

A sofa cushion

White ostrich feather

Electric torch (which didn't work)

Case for telegraph forms (this was a common gift)

Embroidered doyleys

Book of "ancient poems"

Silver canoe model

Danish china fish

Copy of the book Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens (probably quite valuable now!)

Pair of carved brackets

Set of hall brushes

Brass trivets

Sunshade

Chauffrette (foot warmer, or bed warmer). Ok, this was a useful gift. The name just baffled me at first.

Bread fork (???)

An "old jug".

Compiled by Charlotte Day. Thanks to the late Jane Pullinger for her help.
