1700s Oxford Road People

The following occupied property in Oxford Road or Oxford Lane as it was then known, during the 1700s. Dates next to each persons entry are for when I know they were in Oxford Road. Most of the properties we see today in the road were yet to be built so the number of residents in the 1700s was low.

**It is strongly recommended that you also search my 1700s Quoiting Square post as Oxford Road forms one side of that square and for some people their address is randomly given as one or the other**

Most of those listed did not own the properties they occupied. I have noted owners here only when they have a family link to the occupier. In some cases who owned the property is unknown to me. It is usually impossible to know exactly which property is being referred to- but I am working on it! Finding names of 1700s residents anywhere is very difficult. The fact I have any at all for any street in Marlow is down only to years of research. I'll never be able to find everyone but along with Kathryn I'll give it my best shot!

Henry Barney. Occupied a close of land called "Oxford Lane Close". Late deceased 1770. Also owned it. (And land at Spinfield etc)

Thomas B...n (illegible). Tenant of a cottage 1772.

Widow Bowles. Tenant cottage 1729.

Thomas Carter. Tenant 1729.

William Croxon. Tenant of a cottage 1772.

Henry East. Tenant of home and garden 1786.

John Hester. Tenant of cottage 1729.

Richard Stevens. Tenant 1758.

Widow Thompson. Tenant of home and garden. 1786.

Links to my listings posts of 1700s residents of the High Street, Quoiting Square, Dean Street and Chapel Street can be found on the menu under the " Specific Shop, Streets...Etc " option.

My long Recreated 1700s Trade Directory for Marlow and Little Marlow is here.
